So I quickly got myself a small “fan-club” in Punta del Este, a team of young Uruguayan sailors who came with me on a very pleasant and speedy sail from Punta del Este to Piriapolis.
Piriapolis is a typical summer town, and it’s winter now here, so I was expecting it to be very empty. But there turned out to be a bit more life here than I expected. Granted the beach is not very crowded at this time of the year.
But it turns out I have now caught up with the Antarctic sailing community. The marina here is a little bit of a “Who’s who” of hardcore boat design. There’s the Journeyman of course, moored sort of midway between Amyr Klink’s “Paratii”:
