Estéro Fouque

fouque-glacier

Well, it’s been over 12 years since I was last moored next to a glacier. And that was in Nagtivit bay on East Greenland. Practically on the other side of the planet. And now we’re here. Quite a bit of water under the keel since then, as they say…

On Greenland the weather was nicer, though. Here it’s 2° C and raining most of the time…

For those of you who have been looking at our environmental sampling and wondering why the water is not salt any more, I can tell you that there is a lot of rainwater and melting snow/ice flowing into this narrow bay. The water has almost no salt taste, but it’s very murky and muddy.

  1. Amazing.

Swedish radio just made a god report from a commercialized glaciar further north: http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=438&artikel=5414146
