So now we are heading out into the big blue ocean. Where Search-And-Rescue boats are not to be had. So we need to be our own SAR vessel.
The biggest challenge in a Man Over Board situation at sea is usually to find the victim. Modern technology has came up with a few helpers for this recently. There is both satellite and AIS based rescue transponders. I thought a bit about which one would be best for an ocean going sailboat, and ended up recommending the AIS ones. After all, having a MRCC seeing the position of the victim is not so useful if no one is there to pick him/her up. So I am more interested in seeing it myself.
