First time in my racing history actually. But we don’t want to stay out here for ever. Average speed over the last 5 hrs has been 0.85 knots. We’re in between two low pressures of 1007 and 1009 bar (eh? I thought that was a high ;-) ), and very little improvement expected for the next 30 hrs.

Good news and bad news. Let’s start with the bad: We are last in the fleet, and the wind is dying and will continue to do so according to the forecasts. This means we have no chance to catch up, which is kind of boring. If the forecast is correct I think we might even have trouble making the cutoff time. This is the price we have to pay for being the slowest boat on the longest course.

The good news are a lot better! Up until 3 am this morning when we reached Stora Björn we had nice winds, first a long reach down to Prejaren under Code-0, then upwind to St Björn. During these 5 hours we only lost 30 minutes to the next boats ahead of us. For a long while we were almost keeping pace with the TP52:s! This was also the first occasion I have had to run with the ballast tanks, and they worked excellently. So after all, even if we are loosing, we have to remember that we are competing with a cruiser against some of the fastest racing machines in the world. And we were almost keeping up, at least as long as there was decent wind!

Having a cosy time between 50 footer NOR 12811 “Camilla”, (Cookson 50, TCC 1.39) and Niklas Zennströms’s 72 footer GBR 7236 “Rán 2” (TCC 1.57) :-)

We tried in vain to get into the SRS class in Gotland Runt. Unfortunately the race commitee has decided on a maximum SRS rating of 1.5 for the class, so we were not allowed. First time I have been told I can’t participate because the boat is too fast ;-)

So the only alternative was to get into the IRC Endorsed class. This is a much more complex (and expensive) class to get a rating in. Among other things we have to weigh the empty boat, which we will do on Tuesday.

Four people working a very long sunday will hopefully be enough to get all stuff out, all tanks emptied and the sails off again….

The Swedish Sailing Federation just assigned the official SRS racing handicap rating for the Journeyman 60:

1.61

…which means that according to them the Journeyman is one of the fastest monohulls in Sweden at the moment, less than 10% below the TP 52 (Here is the official list)

Which makes me smile of course. But it also means that competing for top spots in races will be extremely hard…
